Bellingham Arrests and Booking Records
Bellingham holds the Whatcom County seat. It is also the county's biggest city. The Washington Office of Financial Management placed its population at 98,340 on April 1, 2025. Local law enforcement works in two layers. The Bellingham Police Department, or BPD, handles incidents inside the city. Whatcom County Corrections takes over once someone enters the jail. Keep those records straight, because a BPD activity entry is not a jail roster entry.
The BPD contact page lists the department at 505 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225. When a BPD arrest leads to county detention, check the Whatcom County current-custody roster for status. Booking entries often name the arresting agency. If it says BPD, you are looking at a city arrest.
That split prevents a common mistake. City activity gives incident context. It never proves someone entered the jail. County bookings can point back to BPD as the arresting agency, yet the city page supplies the timing window. Each record covers a different stage, so use both for what they actually show.
Where Bellingham Busted Mugshots Appear
Official sources come first in any Bellingham lookup. BPD's city tool gives activity context; Whatcom County's jail tools track booking and custody. Neither one is a public mugshot gallery. The table below separates the record types so a city incident is not confused with current detention, and a release is not read as an active booking.
| Official channel | What it answers | Photo display | Record status |
|---|---|---|---|
| BPD Police Daily Activity | Selected-date city activity and incident context | No promise of a booking photo | Activity log, not a booking roster |
| WCSO current roster | Who is held in Whatcom County custody now | Text-only interface | Current custody |
| WCSO bookings by date | Who was booked on a chosen calendar date | Text-only interface | Booked, possibly later released |
| WCSO releases by date | Who left county jail custody on a chosen date | Text-only interface | Released from county custody |
| BPD public-record request | Specified BPD reports or records | Release depends on the custodian and law | City records process |
The public Whatcom County Jail roster lets you search names of people currently in custody. Working from a known booking date? Use Jail Bookings by Date. If the person may already be out, try Jail Releases by Date instead. All three tools show text fields and booking details. None of them display booking photographs.
Unofficial sites and general search results carry their own risks. Updates lag, entries go stale, and errors slip in. They cannot confirm Bellingham custody or an official photo policy. The dependable order stays the same: BPD, WCSO, then the court record.
Busted in Bellingham: Official Lookup
A name plus an approximate date sharpens any Bellingham search. Start with the city activity source. It tells you whether BPD logged a local incident. Then shift to the county system for the custody picture. The Whatcom County records hub gathers the full roster, date-based bookings, releases, and records-request details in one place.
- Check BPD's Police Daily Activity for the relevant dates and read the item as city incident context, not as a booking result.
- Search the WCSO roster by name to see whether the person is currently in Whatcom County custody and note the facility field.
- When current custody is not shown, select the likely booking date in the WCSO bookings tool, then check the releases tool for the possible release date.
- Use the booking agency, booking number, court, or case fields to direct a request or a court follow-up.
An empty result does not close the question. The person may have been released already. A different custody system may now hold them, or no matching public entry exists. Court disposition is where an arrest finally meets its case outcome.
BPD Activity and Arrest Logs
BPD's date-range publication is a resource most cities do not offer. The official Police Daily Activity page opens a City-hosted Press Summary form. Pick your From and To dates, choose summaries or details, and search. It is an activity log for Bellingham. It is not a booking roster or a mugshot page. That limit is its strength. It pins down the city event before you move to the county custody tools. The BPD Police Daily Activity source shows the official date-range interface.
The form narrows a local date window, but it cannot confirm current jail custody. BPD also keeps a quarterly arrest-log archive. Use either city publication for context. Then turn to the WCSO roster, bookings, or releases for the actual county status.
Note: BPD activity and arrest-log pages are city sources, while Whatcom County jail interfaces answer the custody question.
Bellingham Busted Records Requests
BPD Records Division handles requests for a specific Bellingham police record. The published request form asks for identifiers that speed things up. These include a case number, the incident date and type, the exact information sought, and any known names. Keep the two systems separate here. A city police report and a county jail record are not the same thing. Send report requests to BPD. Route anything tied to a Whatcom County jail record to the county custodian instead.

The city's Public Records Center is the online route for filing a request, and the BPD public-record request form spells out the details you'll need. State law sets a five-business-day clock for the first response under RCW 42.56.520. Keep in mind that this deadline applies only to the reply, not to the release of the records themselves, which can take longer.
Jail records follow a different path. The WCSO jail-records route takes online, mail, in-person, email, and fax requests. Under RCW 70.48.100, the public register is limited by statute, and most other jail records stay confidential unless a defined process opens them. Neither portal promises a booking photo.
Bellingham Booking Dates and Releases
Whatcom County's booking system runs on calendar dates rather than a rolling feed. Open the Bookings page and you land on today; from there you can step back through dates as far as 1996. Each result may list a name, booking date and time, release date and time when one exists, the booking agency, and a Name ID. Expanded views add a booking number, booking type, offense details, bail, court, and disposition. No photo field shows up in the public interface.
Pick a date, then look. That date-based design pays off when a BPD activity item points to a specific day. There is no minute-by-minute posting schedule and no official 24- or 48-hour Bellingham feed, so recheck the roster or releases tool as custody shifts. A roster entry means the person is held now. A booking-date record may belong to someone already released, and a release-date record means county jail custody has ended.
Booking and release entries are starting points, not endings. Charges can shift as a case moves forward. The disposition field helps you find the next court record, though it won't replace the court file itself.
Bellingham Busted Custody Limits
A Bellingham arrest does not tell you where a person is held. The Whatcom County Corrections Bureau runs the downtown maximum-security jail plus the Interim Work Center. It also offers alternatives like electronic home detention, work release, and work crew. Check the facility field on the current roster rather than assuming one building handles every Bellingham case.
County custody is only one slice. Someone sentenced to state custody or under DOC jurisdiction shows up in the Washington DOC search, not the Whatcom roster. Immigration custody has its own tool. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System uses separate matching rules. WCSO says it does not take part in ICE's 287(g) program, but the local roster still can't substitute for the federal locator.
Match the search to the actual custody question. That way a missing county entry never gets mistaken for a conclusion about a person or a case.
Bellingham Crime Record Sources
Official records come first for Bellingham arrests. BPD publishes city activity material. The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office posts its own reports for Sheriff-handled events. Local reporting adds context after that, but a news story is not a booking database and settles nothing about custody or case outcomes. The countywide arrest news coverage page keeps the reporting trail separate from the official record path.
Several outlets cover this beat. Cascadia Daily News Crime & Courts and the Bellingham Herald's Crime section report on Bellingham police, courts, and wider Whatcom County matters. My Bellingham Now and Whatcom News carry local stories too. Read each as attributed journalism. Note the agency or court cited. Then verify any current booking or release through WCSO yourself.
Third-party listing sites exist as well. Those unofficial publishers can carry historic, mixed, incomplete, delayed, or simply wrong Bellingham entries. None serves as a records source here. No local newsroom keeps a Whatcom County mugshot gallery either. That gap fits with the photo-free official WCSO interfaces and the limits the jail-record statute imposes.
